Recruiting Tip 6

Finding Resumes Using Google

There are thousands of passive candidates resumes accessible on Google.

In Recruiting Tip 6 we show you the steps you need to construct a basic search string:

  1. Isolate "resumes" in your search term.

inurl:searchterm - looks in the URL

intitle:searchterm - looks in page title

Insert common resume terms: resume, CV

    (inurl:resume or intitle:resume)

  2. Choose key skills and terms

    Use boolean search

Examples AND/OR: ("call center" and director) (marketing or "business development" or sales)

  3. Narrow by location

State ("New Jersey" or NJ or ", NJ")

    City ("city name")

    Area code ("732")

  4. Filter pages that won't return resumes

Use -job or -jobs or -requisition or -job posting

Example search string: (inurl:resume or intitle:resume) (sales or marketing or "business development") healthcare -job -jobs "NJ"
