Chief Operating Officer

Recruitment Case Study

The Challenge

Find a Chief Operating Officer (COO) with experience managing operations in three countries and a willingness to move to the Philippines.

Our client, a publicly traded services company, asked for our assistance in recruiting a COO to manage global operations. This individual also had to demonstrate ‘high-potential aptitude’ and have the ability to take over a CEO position in 3-4 years. Our challenge included finding a operations executive with senior level sales management experience, with a competitor and a willingness to relocate to the Philippines.

Action

Our team felt the biggest challenge for this search would be finding candidates willing to relocate to the Philippines. Initially, we focused on identifying candidates with similar experience and credentials from close competitors in the Philippines. We then expanded our efforts to identify and target expats working for competitors and currently living in Asia. Our search also included senior executives currently living in the US with demonstrated success living overseas and managing a global workforce.

Results

The search took eleven weeks and after identifying several candidates, our client finally decided on an expat currently working for a competitor in India. Because the search was limited to finding candidates from competitors of our client, we were able to reach and focus on a defined group of executives.
