The Challenge
Find a Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) with multi-entity and multi-country accounting management experience.
Our client, a publicly traded, business services company, asked for our assistance in recruiting a CAO to manage the accounting team for multiple business units spanning five countries. Our challenge included finding candidates with recent SEC and GAAP experience, strong leadership and management skills, experience managing multiple business entities, a willingness to travel internationally and a willingness to relocate to Los Angeles.
Action
Our team felt the biggest challenge for this search would be finding candidates willing to relocate to Los Angeles due to the cost of living. Initially, we focused on identifying candidates with public accounting management experience in Southern California. Shortly thereafter we expanded our efforts to identify qualified candidates who once lived in California and would have interest in returning. Finally, we further expanded the search outside of California to include executives who were currently managing international accounting organization for public companies.
Results
After an extensive search for candidates throughout the United States, we successfully completed the search in 94 days - recruiting an accounting executive away from a large organization in Southern California.
